Acing the Interview

The interview is your big chance to get the job. Being able to effectively communicate with the interviewer is essential to being hired. To prepare, visit a personnel firm for a mock interview. Once you've completed the interview, ask the recruiter or personnel manager about your diction and communication skills.

  • Interviews are not just about personality, they are about business. Interviewers want to know about your character and integrity but they also want to know that you can do more than just what you are hired to do.
  • The ability to listen is just as important. Really hear and understand the questions. Let the interviewer control the interview and get them to talk about themselves.
  • Preparation is also key to a successful interview. Be knowledgeable about the industry, trends and job duties. Prepare some thoughtful questions that show you have a knowledge of the company and its functioning.
  • Finally, be likable. Confrontation will get you nowhere. Winning a disagreement and proving yourself right does not get you the job. It gets you passed over. Be prepared, be professional, be likable and be gracious.
