I took a day off on Friday but before I left, I gave our administrative professional the usual run down of what I thought might come up in my absence – who might call, how to reach me, what issues were on the watch list, etc. She always knows who is at work, who is out, who is waiting for a call, what packages arrived today and a host of other facts critical to the running of our business.
Administrative Professionals Week® is April 24th-30th and Administrative Professionals Day® is on Wednesday, April 27th (formerly called Professional Secretaries Week® and Professional Secretaries Day). We are pretty enthusiastic about the administrative professionals we interview, qualify and place here at Snelling, so we’re not just observing the week. We are focusing on the value of administrative professionals for the entire month.
Administrative professionals are given the job of keeping an office
running smoothly. They relieve management of administrative detail, coordinate work flow, update and chase delegated tasks to ensure progress to deadlines and keep projects on schedule. For a full description, visit the International Association of Administrative Professionals' (IAAP) website.
You might think with all this responsibility, these administrative professionals wouldn’t like their job very much. However, a new survey from job site CareerBliss.com shows that they actually value their work, their colleagues—even their boss—more than dozens of other professions.
CareerBliss used nine factors of workplace happiness to rate job satisfaction. These administrative professionals gave high ratings to their relationship with their boss and co-workers, their work environment, job resources, compensation, growth opportunities, company culture, company reputation, daily tasks and job control over the work that they do on a daily basis.
If you are currently looking to hire an administrative professional, OnlineOrganizing.com states that the the successful candidate should:
-
Possess a results orientated mentality
-
Have the ability to identify actions necessary to complete tasks and obtain results
-
Maintain focus on goals
-
Strive to remove potential obstacles to successful goal attainment
-
Implement thorough and effective plans and apply appropriate resources to produce desired results
