Like it or not, people are initially judged by their appearance. Therefore, it’s critical to make a good first impression when on a job interview. Take a look at yourself well in advance so you have time to prepare yourself. A last minute haircut, nail polishing or shave is just the cherry on top. Being well groomed is a given, but you must also pay attention to your style of dress and the portrait you’re painting, so to speak. If you are unsure of what’s appropriate, look through business magazines and notice what successful professionals are wearing.

-
Be aware of your body type and avoid clothes that are unflattering, too tight, too short or too loose.
-
Be easy when it comes to patterns, jewelry and perfume or cologne. Remember that quality is better than quantity.
-
No dangly earrings, facial piercings or hats for the interview. Remember, what works on the street probably doesn’t work in an office.
-
When in doubt, be conservative. Dressing professionally allows the interviewer to focus on you and your experience.
Be smart, be conservative and look the part!
