EATONTOWN, NJ (August 24, 2009) - You don't need the acting skills of Meryl Streep or Marlon Brando to pull off a great performance as a dedicated employee. With employees fighting to keep their jobs, workers need to concentrate more on portraying themselves as team players.
Additionally, since the market isn't exactly running rampant with new opportunities, candidates can't afford to botch an interview by appearing uninformed. Snelling Staffing - The Wyckoff Group is urging both current employees and job seekers to rethink how they're being perceived by hiring authorities, management and peers and slip into the role of "talented professional".
"Whether in an interview or going through a typical workday, people need to reevaluate how they're marketing themselves," says Frank Wyckoff,
President of Snelling Staffing - The Wyckoff Group. "Analyzing how you're viewed by others is instrumental to either keeping your job or landing a new one."
Wyckoff suggests that approaching your interview or job like a role may make it easier to focus on conveying your worth to a potential company or your current organization.
"Imagine what the perfect employee acts like...what he or she says and does on a daily basis," he challenges. Wyckoff gives out some advice about important topics to help professionals "prepare for their role":
1. Expertise - Don't be in the dark. Do take a proactive approach to be the expert in your field.
2. Appearance - Don't be messy. Do have clean appearance, no matter what the dress code is.
3. Attitude - Don't complain about your salary or the current economic state. Do exert a contagious positive energy.
4. Dedication - Don't show up late or be the first one to leave. Do show that you'll sacrifice some personal time for the sake of the company.
5. Ethics - Don't cut corners. Do show how important integrity is to you.
Wyckoff does however warn against overacting the part. "People tend to have a 6th sense for insincerity. Don't just act the part...be the part," he adds.
