EATONTOWN, NJ (September 3, 2009) - Who doesn't love sleeping in and barbequing with family and friends? After all, Labor Day is all about missing a Monday of work... right? While the mere mention of the phrase "work holiday" brings a beaming smile to even the most dedicated of employees' faces, Snelling Staffing - The Wyckoff Group is urging people to take a step back this year and appreciate the two best things about working: the fact that you have a job at all and your great coworkers.
"Back in the day, your career was a part of you. You had a sense of pride in your work and people associated you with your job," says Frank Wyckoff, President of Snelling Staffing - The Wyckoff Group. "Nowadays, people change their career more often than their socks. People are starting to realize that they should appreciate the value of a good job."
Since the workplace may be a little more stressful this year due to recession, Wyckoff states that a strong camaraderie amongst coworkers is one of the key things that motivate us to get the work done.
"People spend more time with their coworkers than they do with their families," adds Wyckoff. "Genuinely enjoying your time with working companions is great on both a personal and professional level."
In honor of Labor Day, The Wyckoff Group is saluting the five coworkers that inspire us to get out of bed every morning:
1) Optimistic Olivia: Your budget ran out, your boss gave you the most impossible deadline and to top it all off, you have the sniffles. What's stopping you from moping worse than a kindergartner on timeout? Optimistic Olivia, that's who. When you've hit rock bottom, Olivia is waiting there ready to remind you how wonderful you are and that everything will be okay... and then tops it all off with a delightfully corny quote from Helen Keller.
2) Tough Love Timmy: You stayed up all night working on a project and submitted what you thought was you're A+ work. Timmy gives you a B- and tells you to get back to the drawing board. After you mutter some "pleasant words" under your breath, you go back to square one and rework your game plan. While Timmy drives you crazy, there's no better feeling than when you resubmit your work and he finally says, "A+, I knew you could do it."
3) Hilarious Harry: No matter the place or time, Harry always cracks the funniest joke that leaves you laughing out loud for hours. Just when work gets too tough and you're ready to pull your hair out, in comes Harry with, "So a blonde walks into a bar..." It's just icing on the cake that he doesn't mind it when you tell your family the joke and pass it off as your own.
4) Determined Diane: You've never had a conversation with Diane outside of the typical elevator chat. What you do see though is her ability to work nonstop and quadruple the business that comes in for the company. While you think it's creepy that she's never even gotten up to go to the bathroom, her admirable work ethic makes you want to be that much better.
5) Bend Over Backwards Beth: Everyone needs a sidekick at work - look no further than Beth. She's more loyal than a Golden Retriever and always knows the right things to say and do to keep you on track. No matter how hectic her day is, she'll ignore the five-mile high stack of papers on her desk to help you figure out why your computer crashed.
